Can we attain immortality… Or Should We?

Scientists and researchers suggest that as we evolve and become a better civilization, we can achieve the state of immortality. We can get such a hypothesis regarding the Kardashev Scale. And immortality is simply the state of eternal life. Humanity may achieve such an immense peak by using more and more energy from the Universe.

It sounds convincing.

Like, why worry about illnesses? Or any injury? Or even mental pain? There is no way you can leave this world! It is such an amazing thing, right?

When you know you cannot die, it means that you have freedom. You can do anything at anytime without even worrying about getting punished by God.

But here are my views on this. I feel one of the most beautiful, practical truths of life is that it ends at a point. Eternal life makes living harder.

If you disagree, let me take you through my perspective on this.

Here is my first explanation. Let’s say you have achieved everything that you want in your immortal life. Meaning, all the happiness you can experience, you’ve attained it all.

All good. But answer me this, what would you do later? Once you’ve achieved everything you can imagine, you can’t dream anymore. From that point in your immortal life, I caught you in an eternal predicament.

Your brain would experience torture, but again, you wouldn’t die because of anything. Overall, it traps you in an unending suffering.

You would lose all hope of life, and yet you can’t die! How unfortunate is that!?

The second reason, according to me, would be that you may become too sedentary.

Since you have unlimited time, there may be no point in hard work as well. You certainly can and will achieve all that you want any time in your life. Hence, immortality can cause a sense of lethargy in your abilities. There would be no motive or strength to take action for your goals.

This may lead to lack of development of the society and technology for the future. Nobody would dare get out of their comfort zone because the feeling of comfort enslaves them.

Third, immortality will cause overpopulation. The environment will cease to exist if there is overpopulation. Because of overpopulation, there would be no room for them throughout the globe. Chaos will rise. Ultimately, there would an impending hell to existence. Riots, famine, drought, war are also some of the consequences that may happen.

It sounds dark, but it is truth. Any organism which has a life must leave the world at some point. The uncertainty of death makes us fear that, but it also teaches us the value of the present moment.

Having the awareness of death will certainly push all of us to go beyond our limits and give a meaning to this life.

I hope this article has motivated you to emerge stronger. Since the present moment is the most important, use it to the best of your ability. Have fun, work hard, enjoy.
