Lots of people consider meditation as a complicated thingie. Maybe they think it involves the yogic chakras, or mantras, and stuff like that. But meditation is not truly that far-fetched from logic. Meditation is easier than you think.

If we genuinely analyze the core meaning and purpose of meditation, then we can utilize it in our everyday lives easier.

Depending on what you know or do not know about meditation, it can be super obvious, or extremely non-intuitive so read this post till the end.

What is meditation?

Meditation means “nothingness,” nothing more or nothing less (no pun intended, maybe).

Jokes apart, meditation is the state of self when there is no thought, action, and complete stillness.

What do I mean?

When you sit still, eyes open or closed, you are already in meditation when you are not thinking or doing anything. Chanting mantras will break you out of meditation. Thinking of God will do the same. You cannot call it meditation anymore if you do actions.

How do I do it?

It may seem a lot more trivial, but your mind is always on noise and chatter. Close your eyes and observe your mind without any reactions. You will come to light that your mind wanders like a nomad from here to there. Distractions happen quickly, emotions break like glass, and chaos occur,

Do not be persistent and try to bring your mind into control because the more you try doing it, the more it will wander away. It will irritate you further.

Instead, do this. Just observe what your mind is thinking. Observe with zero reaction or emotion. You will feel the noise, that tension, that friction.

To get rid of it, breathe. Breathing is the shortest way to calm your mind. Do not try to pressure yourself, but close your eyes and breathe.

Keep notice that when I say “breathing,” I do not mean chest breathing. But I mean, “breathe like babies.” How? A baby’s tummy expands and contracts as he inhales and exhales. This process is called abdominal breathing (or belly breathing)

Abdominal breathing is essential for your body too. According to pdrclinics.com, abdominal breathing helps the body get more supply of oxygen. It also helps relieve muscle tension and spasm and has other benefits too.

Unfortunately, most of us do not realize that chest breathing is not deep breathing, but abdominal breathing is.

When you breathe in, you let your belly expand up, and when you breathe out, you let your belly contract. It’s that easy.

Now let us dive deep into the steps to meditate:-

1. Find a comfortable, relaxed space.

Finding a comfortable and relaxed space will make meditation much easy and doable. If you have a companion to do this with you, feel free to let them meditate along with you but make sure there are no distractions.

The place can be anywhere, from the nearest park to your bedroom, you can choose any relaxed place that you can.

2. Right posture

The correct posture is helpful for your body; It helps in curing your backaches, primarily if you work on the computer for very long.

It’s nothing but keeping your head straight with your spine comfortably erect. Please do not force it to be upright but keep it at that erectness. If, for some reason, you are not able to do it on your own, feel free to have support for your back.

3. Calm your mind

Calming the mind is straightforward; it is about abdominal breathing. So you close your eyes and start abdominal breathing. No need to take pressure if your mind wanders; let it walk. Just focus on your breathing for a start. Your mind will calm down automatically.

Keep doing this consistently, and your mind will feel good as if you have lifted a ton of your weight. You will feel more peaceful.

4. Be still and present

Now that you have calmed your mind. Be sure to have control of it. If you do, then congrats. You are successful.

To continue being in this peaceful state, focus on the present moment. The sounds you hear, the air you breathe, whatever you are feeling. Feel it, embrace it, enjoy it with no thought.

Do not chant anything or focus on anything else. Life will appear more stunning from the inside if you continue practicing meditation.

The only thing that will require practice is the calming of your mind. But if you truly decide to go into meditation, you can achieve mastery.

In conclusion, meditation is effortless to do and can be the go-to method to cure oneself of mental problems. Like they say, “meditation is to the mind as exercise is to the body.” As you step into the world of meditation, I wish you all the best to master it. Have a good day.
